Meet the Artist
Katy Farr at the Atlanta High Museum of Art.
ARTIST: Katy Farr paints portraits in oil and watercolor. Katy currently features some of her abstract work at Dogwood Gallery in Tyrone, Georgia. Katy studied art at the High School for Performing and Visual Arts in Houston, Texas and at the Art Institute in San Miguel de Allende in Mexico. Katy continued her studies at the Houston Museum School of Fine Art and at St. Thomas University, under noted artists, Dick Wray and Earl Staley. Katy apprenticed Master Printer, Dave Folkman, at Little Egypt Enterprises in Houston, Texas. After moving to Atlanta, Katy studied at the Atlanta College of Art.
Katy’s artwork has been featured in exhibits both in Houston and Atlanta. Katy has completed over fifty portrait commissions for clients in the greater Atlanta area. Katy paints from her home studio in Fayetteville, Georgia
TEACHER: Katy has spent over 40 years as a Montessori teacher at Montessori Schools in the greater Atlanta Area, including 31 years at Counterpane School in Fayetteville, Georgia. She specializes in tutoring reading for young children ages two to six and for children struggling with reading. She has an AMI Montessori diploma and a certificate for teaching the Orton-Gillingham method. Katy also has training and experience as a Junior Great Books leader. In addition to reading, Katy has created and developed curriculum for mixed ages from preschool through high school in subjects including art, art history, history, research, and creative writing.
